Why Volunteer with IELLA?

The Justice Gap Is Widening—You Can Help Close It

On May 28, 2025, the State Bar of California released its 2024 Justice Gap Study, revealing that Californians across all income levels continue to face serious civil legal problems—most of which go unresolved. Compared to the 2019 study, the 2024 findings paint an even more urgent picture: the need for legal help is growing, but the supply of available attorneys remains far too small.

Give Back to Your Community

Many of our clients are your neighbors—immigrants, low-income families, survivors of abuse—seeking fairness and protection. Volunteering with IELLA means standing up for justice right where you live.

Flexible Opportunities & Ongoing Support

We offer a variety of ways to get involved, from one-time clinics to ongoing mentorship roles. Volunteers have access to recorded trainings, legal manuals, and a supportive community of fellow attorneys and advocates.

Every hour you give can change a life.

This isn’t just a statistic—it’s a daily reality for families in our community navigating housing instability, family law crises, and barriers to employment or safety, all without legal support.

As a volunteer attorney with IELLA, your skills can make a direct, measurable impact. Whether you take on a case, offer limited-scope guidance, or supervise law students and volunteers, you are investing in access to justice and helping our neighbors move toward stability and self-sufficiency.

The gap is wide, but together, we can close it. Join us.
